Milk Carton Garbage Museum

Organizational Vision

The Milk Carton Garbage Museum seeks to draw public interest to the environmental problem caused by discarded milk cartons by creating the world's first national garbage museum, using milk cartons as raw materials

Citizen Base Strategy

Over 3,000 milk cartons are supplied daily in Amphur Pua, Nan Province, which if not recycled properly lead to environmental degradation. The Milk Carton Garbage Museum project aims to use these discarded milk cartons as raw materials for creating local art works and cultural pieces that will be displayed at the provincial museum. With the cooperation of students, parents and various government agencies, a school building located on the tourist route is being re-modeled into self-supporting museum and learning center. The project serves to enhance environmental awareness and foster community spirit in addition to generating income through the sales of souvenirs, food and local handicrafts.

(Expected results, as of 2003: Cooperation between the public sector, local community and parents, with students playing a pivotal role in project implementation; Transforming schools into traditional learning centers; Generating Bt150,000-300,000 of annual income from tourism)
