The Trees Take Care of Us
FUNDACIÓN EDUCATIVA WOODVILLE
Fundación Educativa Woodville has created an environmental education program to preserve the Andean forests. With dying, sick, and dry trees in the Andean constituting an environmental hazard, the fundación recognized that these trees could become a fuel source or building materials to repair low-income housing. In order to implement this idea, the fundación developed relationships with several different constituencies. The Andean Forest Service gave the fundación the permission to cut the trees, the landowners donated the right of cutting, and young people from the fundación cut, clean and distributed the wood. The initiative generated a positive use for a resource, benefited the environment, and stimulated environmental education amongst young people.
