Fostering an Environmental Education Network

Organizational Vision

CFSD promotes environmental protection by spreading awareness and building networks of volunteers.

Citizen Base Strategy

At its workshops, the CFSD educates journalists and primary school teachers about the environmental protection issues. These two groups then share this knowledge with their communities and use it to create new networks of volunteers. To become a member, an individual pays a fee of 20 Taka, of which five Taka go to the CFSD.  The remainder is kept to finance the group’s activities. CFSD and the groups share the cost of public events such as rallies, tree plantation, fairs, seminars, workshops, garbage cleanliness, essay and sport competitions. CFSD also provides the volunteers with marketing materials for free or at nominal cost. The sales of these enable the groups to generate resources on their own.

CFSD’s strategy proves effective in engaging the public in environment protection activities and creating a network of small groups of activists able to mobilize resources.

Results

CFSD is building citizen volunteer groups in Satkhira, Barisal, Khulna, Dhaka, Sunamganj, and Jessore. To date they have 83 volunteer groups consisting of 3400 members.
