Organizational Vision

UNNATI is a collective of women artisans who produce high-quality brass products that meet global health and safety standards to raise income in an effort to reduce child labor in the hazardous brass manufacturing industry. This way children are given an opportunity for education and women become economically empowered in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

UNNATI has a training and production center for brass artisans and they have created a process granting the women ownership over their work, which improves efficiency and increases their direct profits. Furthermore, relationships with local exporters and fair trade organizations have enabled UNNATI to tap into high-end competitively priced domestic and international markets. In order to expand and continue sustainability, the organization will provide fee-based consulting services to other brass manufacturing production houses that aim to maintain the same high health and safety standards. UNNATI's income generation schemes are designed to generate profits that not only help the women earn a decent living, but also provide the organization with sufficient financial capital to invest in training of many more women.

Citizen Base Strategy

Use donor funding to establish income generation schemes.

The Christian Children's Fund (CCF) New Zealand provided 20 lakhs which Unnati used to establish its income generation scheme: a training and production center for brass artisans. With this funding, UNNATI provided training to 30 women, purchased production assets, and established relationships with local exporters.

Tap into markets for high-quality and equitably produced products

Once UNNATI's artisans had begun production, UNNATI established partnerships with local exporters and fair trade organizations to ensure that the women have access to domestic and international markets for their products. The regular job orders provide steady income for the women. UNNATI also uses a portion of the profits to meet its administrative expenses and invest in new training programs.

Charge membership fees to expand strategically

In the near future, UNNATI intends to expand its supply base by providing services to other production houses, e.g. casting, scrapping, and polishing. UNNATI plans to charge a membership fee to these external artisans, who will be provided with orders.
